For any special occasion, a little bit of mood lighting can go a long way. When it comes to inexpensive and simple decor, votive candles are the most versatile and lovely addition to any centerpiece, display table or shelf. Today, we have 3 ways to take a plain votive candle and customize it for 3 distinct color palettes and decor theme. Here they are:
1 – Literary Lighters
For this one, all you need is (1) Votive candles, (2) Votive candle holders, (3) an old throw-away book and (4) tape.
Each votive holder needs 2 strips of paper. Ripping them by hand gives them the best look.
Make 2 folds in the paper strip as seen above.
Wrap the 2 strips of paper around the votives and secure with tape.
2 – Leafy Lights
For this one, you need (1) Votive candles, (2) Votive candle holders, (3) leaves (from your yard) and (4) double-sided tape (I used these Photo tape squares because I had them laying around).
Make a trail of tape in the lower middle region of the glass votive holder.
Wrap the leaf and secure using additional tape.
3 – Colorful Candles
For this one, you need (1) Votive candles, (2) Votive candle holders, and (3) colored string or yarn (You can’t go wrong with this variety pack I found at Michael’s).
Choose your first color and begin wrapping it around the glass votive holder.
From there, scrunch the strings down to make one block of color.
To secure it in place, I just tied a small knot and trimmed the excess string.
Add a second block of color.
Take the third color and wrap it on top of the first two colors in a “half-hazard” or “messy” way. And you are all done!
Lastly, find a home for your new & improved votive candles. I love that these small decor items can add so much personality and color to an otherwise boring table.
