As Drybar founder Alli Webb knows, it’s the simple things in life that can bring the most joy. That’s why she’s built an entire business around the simple joy of fabulous hair. If you’ve never been to a Drybar, we highly suggest dropping everything and booking yourself an appointment! It’s a salon that marries the vintage ideals of a weekly trip to the beauty parlor with the modern day must-have of a perfect blowout. For only $40 you sit in posh luxury and get a gorgeous ‘do, all while sipping wine and watching a classic Rom Com on the flat panel screens that line the bar. Of course the concept caught on like wildfire and what was once a small side business has quickly evolved into a thriving, multi-million dollar company.
Today the business-savvy hairstylist and loving wife and mama gives us a peek into her full day, sharing her plan for making the most of her work day and family time, as well as revealing a few of her current fall favorites. ~Brandee
1–What does a typical day look like in the Webb household?
I usually wake up and wrestle my boys out of bed to get ready for school. While they are getting ready and eating breakfast, I make lunch and start reading through the mass number of emails I’ve received the night before or need to catch up on. Then I throw the kids and my dog Cooper in the car and it’s off to school and work we go.
2-You run a rapidly growing business and have an equally busy family. How do you seek to balance your work, family and rest time?
Balancing my work and home life is a major challenge that I am always struggling with. I try to make sure I can be home on the weekends to make my boy’s baseball games and in the evening for bedtime stories and snuggles. I feel so lucky to be doing what I love and tend to have a lot of guilt for either not being at home or not being at work, but at the end of the day it’s all about working hard and figuring out ways to make it all fit – some days are better than others.
3-The Chic editors have been talking a lot about the challenges of working from a home office when you have small children. What tips do you have for scheduling your day?
Luckily, we have our company headquarters close to home so I mostly work from there as opposed to at home. When I am home, as I happen to be while writing this, I tend to go in and out of the office. Work for a chunk of time, then go play for 20 minutes. It’s amazing how 20 minutes of uninterrupted time (no phones or computers!) with my kids doing exactly what they want to do, goes a very long way to making them feel satisfied and content!
4-What’s one small change you’ve made to your work day that has made all the difference?
I’ve made it my business to work out at least 4 days a week AND get home in time to spend a few hours with my kids before bed. It makes a huge difference in my sanity and overall productivity.
5-What’s your best tip for making your blow out last… just…one…more…day?
A great shower cap, Detox dry shampoo, and re-blow your bangs or fringe – it will freshen up your whole blowout!
