When I wrote about Landon Brinkley in my new book Party Girl, The Chic team laughed about the fact that I gave my obsession with purse organization to my main character. They can laugh all they want because if there’s ever an emergency and I need to know where to get my lip balm in a hurry, you can bet I know exactly where to find it! Chapped-lipped crisis averted.
As to what else is going on in this giant bag-o-mine, read on!
First and foremost, the bag itself is from Cole Haan and I love it because it’s got both handles AND a long strap so you’ve got options in how you carry it. It’s also got several pockets already inside (so they must like to be organized as much as I do) and a bright blue interior which is just pretty and makes me happy!
1. Personalized Notebook from May Designs – I had a May Book journal made for all the women I knew a few years ago for Christmas and I still carry mine around. I have some sort of notebook on me at all times for things like: grocery lists, story ideas, to-do lists, something for the boys to color if they get bored… there are a million uses.
2. The iPhone goes without saying, right? I use a Speck case because my baby drops this thing on the ground at least twice a day and it’s got to be well protected.
3. I’m all about a chic business card holder since the people you do business with will undoubtably see what’s holding the card you’re about to hand them. This sweet blue Ostrich cardholder is a splurge from Tiffanys.
3.5 The gold stork scissors are from We Love Citrus and they come in handy when you least expect it.
4. I’m that girl that has 7 pairs of glasses around me at all times! The two that happened to be in my purse the day we shot this? Ray Ban Aviators and Oliver Peoples glasses for the hours I spend staring at a computer.
5. Some kind of handy wipe is a parenting essential! This brand from Blue Q have funny sayings on them.
6. I was forever losing my keys until I found this Giant Red Tassel Keychain from Blithe.
7. The honest truth about being a small business owner? Most of (meaning, 99.9%) everything I make goes back into my business. The one exception is the exciting splurge gifts I’ve bought myself over the years when we’ve booked something really big. This Brown Louis Vuitton Zippy wallet was something I bought myself several years ago after producing a film festival. Just like my purse it has a bright interior (orange in this case)… I’m a sucker for a surprise inside color.
8. You know those people who have headphones on wherever they go? Yeah, I’m one of those people. I absolutely love to listen to music while I grocery shop or clean house and I absolutely cannot workout unless I’ve got good music pumping. So if you’re going to care about music that much, you should probably have some good headphones right? That’s why I’ve always got some Skullcandy earbuds in my bag.
9. I live off coffee and I’m terrified of having coffee-breath so I usually have at least two different flavors of Orbit in my bag at any given moment.
10. You need a smaller bag to hold all your little makeup, lip gloss, ibuprofen, lady products etc, right? I use a colorful clutch from Target. A clutch is great because it usually has it’s own pockets to store in and if you ever just need to carry something smaller your clutch is ready to go!
