At some point in time, I’d say around the same time Snuggies came into existence but before Justin Bieber let us all down, “Babymoons” became a thing. If you aren’t familiar with a Babymoon it’s a vacation you take before the baby comes. Sort of a like a last hurrah before you’re feeding a tiny human at all hours of the day and night. I totally get the idea behind this and I’m sort of bummed that it wasn’t around when I was still pregnant, but I still think it’s kind of a bummer for anyone who can’t afford a tropical getaway just to relax before they become parents. So I thought I’d come up with some cool ideas for those of you who want to take a Babymoon Staycation… meaning, you’re going to stay in town but you’d still like to do some fun things before your little one arrives.
1. Go to the Movies: Preferably a late show! It seems so simple but when you have a baby you can’t just load up and go see Die Hard 12 at the drop of a hat ( not that you’d want to see that movie, but it’s still annoying that you can’t!) Once you have a baby you have to pay for a sitter and the tickets, and the popcorn, etc and then you may as well have gone to Hawaii, because it’ll be just as expensive! Go enjoy the show while you can, maybe make out like teenagers while you’re there for added fun!
2. Go on a Date: Hit your favorite restaurant, a jazz club you like, heck, go dancing if you’re feeling up for it! Whatever it is you love to do just the two of you, get it in before you become a party of three.
3. Get a Massage: Head to the spa if you can, or even just get a manicure. A little pampering will do wonders for both you and your partner and while you don’t need a pedicure, you certainly won’t mind your swollen feet as much if they’ve got some cute polish on them!
4. Sleep! If you don’t think sleep counts as a vacation-like thing then that might be because you’re not losing any yet. If I could go back in time and do anything pre-children, I’d sleep for at least 3 weeks straight.
5. Spend the Whole Day in Bed… because you CAN! Dave and I laugh about our time before kids. We always ask “what did we do with that time?” and the truth is, WHATEVER WE WANTED TO! Stay in bed all day, read 100 romance novels, tell your hubs to try and beat all the levels on his video game. There is precious little time before your hours will be shared with another little person so enjoy them while you can!
