Rachel Hollis Favorite Book Series

If there’s one thing I love more than a good book… it’s a good series of books! I absolutely adore it when and author builds a world or introduces us to a group of people and then continues to grow and build those relationships with each new book. I’ve shared my favorite summer reads and my favorite winter reads I thought it was time to share my favorite book series! For those of you who are picky (unlike me who’ll read the back of a cereal box if it has a good cover!) I’m dividing my favorites by style.

If you like YA – I recently discovered The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer and like a nerdy moth to a dorky flame I was hooked! Yes, ok, this series is written for younger people but I don’t know a book lover who wouldn’t dig it regardless of what age they are. It’s a reimagining of fairy tales set in a futuristic sci-fi eastern inspired world as dominated by aliens. The first book is called Cinder, is Cinderella AS A TEENAGE CYBORG!! You know what? Just go with it!

If you like Historical Romance – I have read The Hathaways series by Lisa Kleypas more times than is technically prudent. It’s about this cool family of total characters set in Regency London and each book is a different sibling’s romance. The very first book is about the oldest no nonsense matriarchal sister falling in love with a wealthy gypsy. Come on you guys, it’s romantic gold!

If you like Historical Historical – No, that’s not a typo. What I mean, is if you like true historical fiction… weighty and deep with tons of descriptors and eons of family trees. I cannot recommend The Pillars of the Earth series by Ken Follett enough. Dave bought me the first book years ago because he saw the “Oprah’s book club” sticker on it and assumed I’d be game. Turns out, even though it’s thousands and thousands of pages long I couldn’t put it down. These books are about the building of a cathedral and how it affected the lives of many generations of the same family, it’s an incredible piece of fiction. No wonder Oprah dug it.

If you like Paranormal Romance – Ok, this is a super sexy series so I’m almost embarrassed to admit that I have read ever single one… and there are like eighteen of them! But I love the Guild Hunter Series by Nalini Singh. It’s about an alternate universe where angels rule the world but they’re mostly evil and all powerful… until they fall in love with a mortal or something equally as swoony. These are like candy to me and I devour every one of them but seriously guys, they’re sexy. You’ve been warned.

If you like Christian Romance – On the totally opposite end of the spectrum The Love Comes Softly series by Janet Oke is a really sweet collection of romance that takes place on the frontier. I read them all the first time when I was in junior high and they’re still some of my most treasured memories of reading.

If you like a Crazy Thriller – I wanted to include something without a love story (tough to do for a romance junkie like me!) but I did really love the Millennium trilogy by Stieg Larsson. I imagine by now that everyone and their brother has read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo but if you’re still holding out, I’ll tell you that it was one of the most creepy and twisted books I’ve ever read and I loved every minute of it!

If you like a Beach Read – Come on guys, if I’m going to make a list of my favorite book series I would be remiss to leave out my own, right? As of two weeks ago when the second book came out I now officially have a series! If you’re not familiar, I write sweet funny books (the kind of thing that’s perfect for a beach trip) and they’re about women in their twenties battling for a career (and a happily ever after) in Los Angeles. The Girl’s series by Rachel Hollis is a bestseller and a must if you’re looking for something light and fun.
