I’m a California girl born and raised in a predominately agriculture focused community– seriously, I grew up between fields of carrots and down the street from a dairy farm. Because of my love for all things Cali I’ve been working with California Dairy for a couple of years now, and honestly, my love from my home state is topped only by my love for the cheese we make here!
So I’m super pumped to team up with them on their Fuel Up to Play 60 Program. The idea is to encourage our kiddos to make healthier and more nutritious choices with their food so they have the energy they need to get in at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. Such a great program, right? And in an effort to promote some healthy snacks I thought I’d give a makeover to my most favorite of all kid foods: Kid Kabobs!
It’s a widely known fact that (at least amongst us moms) that kids will eat almost anything if you put it on a stick. So if you’re looking for healthy lunches or after school snacks consider these fun favorites.
Rainbow Kid Kabobs with California Yogurt – Layer fresh rainbow colored fruit like strawberries, cantaloupe, pineapple, grapes and berries to create a rainbow of yummy favor. Kids can dip their kabob in their favorite flavor of California yogurt.
Pizza On a Stick – Arguably the most popular kid kabobs with my boys are these pizzas on a stick. Layer real California Mozzarella with their favorite pizza toppings like tomatoes, olives, basil, pepperoni, bell pepper, etc. For added fun serve it with marinara sauce for dipping.
Apple and Real California Cheddar – This is such a great one to tuck into a school lunch because its full of protein, fiber and vitamins to fuel your kids for the whole day. I like to sprinkle mine with a little cinnamon (sort of like apple pie with Cheddar cheese!)
Turkey Burger Kid Kabobs – Ok, these are technically adult kabobs too since they’re always really popular at our parties. I layer turkey meatballs and California Monterey Jack with pickles, tomato and lettuce. They’re so good, especially with some pesto on the side!
