I realized something the other day as I walked by the guest room door. It’s October and my guest room has been used 3 times this year. Granted our guests are usually here for at least a week since they’re typically visiting from out of state. But still, out of 365 days, our guest room will have been used a whopping total of 38 days this year. Yes, I actually did the math.
Then I got to thinking about the previous 3 years that we’ve lived in this house and that’s when I realized – I have an entire room dedicated to being used about 30-45 days a year.
What a complete and total waste of space!
I mean, sure, I use the buffet turned dresser to house all of my craft supplies as well as guest linens. But this room sees very little foot traffic in a year’s time.
So I’ve started dreaming up ways to make this room earn its keep around here. Certainly I can find a way to make this room serve double duty, right?! The whole thing has me pretty excited actually as I’m beginning to envision carving out a work space for me, myself and I.
I think with a little furniture rearranging I could pretty easily make this space a guest room/office combination.
I’m also considering ditching the bed for a pull out couch as was done in the guest room/office pictured above, although I wonder how my dad who stays with me for 2 weeks twice a year would feel about that.
Or maybe a daybed would work?
Or maybe going from a king sized bed to a queen or full would allow enough space for a desk to be used as a nightstand? Honestly, there are so many wonderful possibilities, my head is spinning with ideas!
I haven’t really nailed down an exact plan yet, for now I’m just dreaming and enjoying the inspirational eye candy. Country Living never fails to get me excited about a redesign!
Do you have a dedicated guest room? Or does your guest room serve double duty? Why did it take me 3 years to figure this out?
