the chic site ham recipe

Easter is a huge deal in our home. I mean, I’m the daughter of a retired minister so Easter Sunday is kind of our Super Bowl. Every year we invite over everybody we’ve ever known or heard of for a big potluck and just like my Grandparents did before me, I serve the same two main dishes every year: Easter Ham and Kentucky Fried Chicken. The chicken still comes in a big red and white bucket (do any of y’all have KFC on Easter or is that just our weird tradition) but the ham is a bit tougher. We go to church in the morning and them I’m hustling to get home in time to get my ham in the oven. So this year I asked Jonathan to help me come up with a slow cooker ham… and suddenly, all our lives just got so much easier!

how to make ham in slow cooker

Make sure you get a spiral cut ham and place it flat side down, into the bowl of a slow cooker. The juices will flow more evenly into the ham, this way.

Cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 3 to 5 hours. Here’s a great Chip tip for keeping your ham moist and tender!

chic tip

Once done, allow to cool slightly before fully cutting and serving. Then remove the slow cooker ham from the slow cooker and arrange it on a platter to make a pretty presentation!

Don’t forget to arrange the pineapple slices on the ham, not only to give it more flavor but also as a garnish, along with fresh parsley for an added pop of color.

  1. 1 (8 pound) cured, bone-in picnic ham
  2. 1 cup light brown sugar
  3. 1 cup fresh pineapple juice
  4. 4 to 6 slices canned pineapple
  5. 1/2 cup maple syrup
  6. 1 teaspoon salt
  7. 1 teaspoon black pepper
  1. Place the ham, flat side down, into the bowl of a large slow cooker. Sprinkle the brown sugar, salt and pepper on top and rub it into the ham. Pour in the pineapple juice and maple syrup. Arrange the pineapple slices on top and on the sides of the ham. Cook on high for 3 to 5 hours or on low for 6 to 8 hours. Baste the ham every half hour to prevent drying.
  2. Allow to cool slightly on a platter before cutting and serving.
