In search of inspiration for my summer wardrobe, I stumbled across the fabulous blog Frock Files by Joy Uyeno. I read the words, “Happiness Through Simplicity” and that was it. I settled in with my coffee and got lost for an hour. Ok, two.
I couldn’t keep Joy all to myself, so here’s what she had to say about spicing up your summer style.
1-What does fun summer style look like for you in Massachusetts?
Since we have such grey, long winters, I love celebrating summertime with color. My summertime style includes dresses in a rainbow of colors, comfortable sandals or slip on sneakers, and my favorite pair of sunglasses. It’s all about easy, jump-in-the-car-and-go fashion.
2-We all have a favorite summer dress. What’s your advice for a super simple way to change up the look?
Cover-ups! Even in the summertime, I’m all about layers. Since we all tend to go from heat to AC, and since the days go from sweltering afternoons to cool evenings, I always have something on hand to throw over my dresses. A chambray shirt, a large pashmina scarf, a cardigan, or a shrug will instantly warm you up and transform your outfit.
3-Summer dresses also mean bare legs. What’s your trick for keeping them smooth?
My personal favorite from Joy is the creative way she takes a summer staple and adds a few, small changes. Here’s the clever way she took one simple dress and reinvented it three ways.
