These savory sausage filled cheddar biscuits were a huge hit with my family (and the landscapers who happened to be working on the backyard) this Saturday morning. Also, since I used Bisquick to make the they’re insanely easy to accomplish. They were great fresh out of the oven with butter and even jam (I love the whole salty/sweet thing). You can substitute bacon or ham or even go vegetarian… these are pretty hard to mess up!
Here’s What You’ll Need
1 Package of Pork Sausage
1 Red Bellpepper – Diced
1/4 White Onion – Diced
2 Cups of Bisquick
2/3 Cup of Milk
1/2 Cup of Shredded Cheddar – or another cheese of your choice
1 Tbls of Oil
Add oil to a large pan and saute onions and bell peppers on medium heat until onions are translucent (about 5-7 minutes). Set oven to bake at 450.
Add sausage using your spatula to break it into small pieces as it cooks. You’ll know it’s finished when all of your meat is brown. Remove from fire and set to the side.
In a large mixing bowl mix together bisquick and milk.
Add cheese and 1 heaping cup of the sausage mixture… you may need to add a bit more milk if it’s too difficult to mix together. *Note, I didn’t use all my sausage mixture in this recipe. If you have some leftover you could turn it into spaghetti sauce, a pizza or save it in the fridge to add to your eggs throughout the week. Sausage and peppers is an extremely versatile leftover. 😉
Spray your cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray and drop large spoonfuls of biscuits onto it.
Bake the biscuits for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
Allow your biscuits to cool for a bit on a wire rack (or eat right out of the oven while they’re still hot!)
