For most moms, life is a series of errands. Life is punctuated by trips to the grocery store, the dry cleaners, the mall, the pharmacy, Toys R’ Us. If you’re like me, you don’t always have time to take your kids to the zoo or the aquarium, or that fancy new amusement park.
So why not turn your everyday errands/ “must-do’s” into a learning opportunity by bringing your kids along? Teach them important values and skills they’ll use when they’re older. The best part: these fun family “field-trips” won’t cost you a cent!~Jenny
1. Post office. The next time you drop off a package, tell your kids how it will make its way through the postal system. Give them a quick history about the pony express – when letters were delivered on horseback!

2. Bank. Open up a savings account for your little one.

3. Food bank. This is the perfect time to head down to your local food bank and show your kids what it means to be a good neighbor, especially during the Holidays.

4. Local trail. Forego your daily trip to the gym in favor of some fresh air on a short hike.

5. Children’s hospital. This may not be an everyday errand, but it’s well worth your time.

6. 5k. Go cheer on runners and walkers during a weekend event.

7. Goodwill or Salvation Army. Dropping off your used items can set a great example for your kids. Have them help too, by gathering up their used clothing or toys.

8. Firefighter station or police station. If you pass by a station on your way to your errands, stop in and give them a quick tour of what our public servants really do.

9. Library. As a self-proclaimed bibliophile, this one is a given. Take them to the library and stock up on books. It’s never too young to start!

10. Recycling center. Whether you’re dropping of your bottles, bags or old batteries…the importance of re-using and recycling is something everyone should practice, young and old.
