Recently one of The Chic staffers had some trouble getting out the door.
Her daughter was having a hard time letting mommy leave for work. She didn’t want to hang out with the nanny, she wanted to hang out with mommy. A battle of wills ensued.
Most working moms (or even moms headed out on errands or for a date night) have had this issue. The kids don’t want to stay with the sitter and you feel terrible and guilty and it typically makes you late for wherever your headed. Believe me, I’ve been there many many times so when the Chic staffer encountered this problem I had a ready solution! Since she thought it was helpful I wanted to share it with you too. Here’s my little trick to help you kids like the nanny.
Save one thing, one special thing that your child loves to do. This could be as simple as their favorite TV show or as complex as a special game. The key is, NO ONE and I mean NO ONE is allowed to do this special thing with the kids except the sitter. In our house the special game is “washing dishes”. Ford loves to put his plastic bowls and cups in the sink and “wash them”. It basically means he gets to play in the water and he loves it. Every time we’re having a tough morning and he doesn’t want me to put him down and nothing else will work I ask “can Martha help you wash your dishes?” He instantly leaves my arms like they’re on fire because he’s so excited to do his favorite thing.
By the time I’m out the door all signs of a tantrum are long gone because he’s happily playing in the kitchen. ~Rachel
