Before coffee became my morning beverage of choice, there was smoothies.
In the beverage world, smoothies were my first love. I remember the first time smoothie shops started popping up in my neighborhood during my middle school years. It was all the craze and the place to be seen getting your afternoon snack. Jamba Juice, Smoothie King, Planet Smoothie, Robeks…
No need to go out and buy a smoothie. It’s so easy to make at home. All you really need is a good blender.
Don’t worry about buying expensive fresh fruits. Most of my favorite fruits are out of season right now. Frozen fruits are picked at their peak- when they are ripe and perfect for eating. They are then flash frozen and delivered to stores. Frozen fruits are affordable and available year round– plus you can buy them in bulk. And of course, frozen fruits last much longer than their fresh counterparts. No need to wash, peel, or cut up the fruits. With frozen fruits, everything is already done for you.
While I like all-fruit smoothies, I prefer ones with yogurt for that extra pack of protein. I froze plain non-fat yogurt in ice cube trays. Once they are frozen, simply add them to freezer bags filled with your favorite fruits.

Maryanne’s Chic Tip: Get large quantities of your favorite fruits and make a month’s worth of frozen smoothie packs. Add the fruits and yogurt in individual freezer bags. When you are ready for a smoothie, simply add your liquid of choice.
