February may be the official month of love, but adding a little romantic decor to your bedroom is something you can enjoy and appreciate year round. Often times in the world of interior design the word romantic is intertwined with a Victorian style; but I believe no matter what your chosen style you can create a romantic look. After all, romance is really more about a feeling than a certain look anyway. What better spot in your home to feel romantic than in the bedroom?!
Here are a few simple and easy ideas to create your own romantic bedroom retreat!
1. Layer your bed.
For me, romance is about a feeling of warmth. Luxe-oh-so-soft bedding is a must, and I’m all about lots of layers. A great throw blanket just adds to the ambiance no matter the time of year. I believe the items in your home that you touch and feel the most should be the highest on the budget priority list, so I always recommend really good quality sheets. With so many places from HomeGoods to online flash sale sites to choose from, it’s really not too hard to find something to fit in your budget. I promise it’ll be worth every dime to slip into gloriously soft sheets at night. Ask my husband. 😉
2. Adorn the walls with happy, romantic memories.
I love artwork with a story to tell, and I think the bedroom is the perfect place to display those pieces that bring back happy memories of times you’ve shared as a couple. Framing vacation photos of trips you’ve taken together can create a beautiful romantic backdrop. In my bedroom I made some simple numbered artwork that represents the day we got engaged as well as our anniversary date. They’re special numbers that have meaning for us, and seeing them hanging in our room makes me smile.
3. Add a monogram or two.
I’ve mentioned before how much I love monograms! I especially love them in a master bedroom! It’s basically the design equivalent to carving your initials in a tree.
4. Bring in candle light.
Is there anything more romantic than candle light? It’s not only the most flattering light, but with so many amazing fragrances to choose from, candles also bring a sweet aroma to the bedroom. Do yourself a favor and don’t just decorate with candles…actually use them! I like to keep a lighter in my night stand drawer, so lighting is easy breezy.
5. Keep fresh flowers.
A little extra money spent at the grocery store or even just bringing in fresh clippings from your yard really add to the romantic feel of a bedroom. They just make the whole space feel a little more special.
A few romantic decor touches go a long way in creating a romantic bedroom retreat. The way they make you and your partner feel makes them a worthwhile investment. Cheers to romance in the bedroom!
