Chalkboard paint is such a versatile and playful addition to any room. It’s been used for just about every DIY home decor idea in existence, but I think I’ve found my favorite project yet! This chalkboard entry foyer by Carmel of Our Fifth House is a super unique spin on this popular trend. Why? It’s magnetic too!
She’s combined the chalkboard paint with a magnetic primer that allows her to hang decorative magnets and write personalized messages all in one place. The result is this customizable and memorable art piece that she changes with the seasons. If you love this idea as much as I do, there’s still time to snatch the idea in time for the holidays. ~Mesick
Be Nice Or Leave by Carmel
spell it out
They say first impressions are lasting so we wanted our entry foyer to really make a statement. I used Magnetic Primer & Chalkboard Paint to create a welcome sign that is easily changeable with the seasons/holidays.
I did three coats of magnetic primer (you have to keep mixing it so that the paint doesn’t settle), and then followed with 2 coats of chalkboard paint (applied with a foam roller).
make it memorable
I Gorilla glued (thanks to the Jaunt I’ve got lots of Gorilla glue!) magnets to the back of the gold letters (Hobby Lobby – half price sale – $2/each).
I like the mix of the letters with the chalk. It just feels fun and whimsical. I decided to use the magnetic primer so that I’d be able to change things really easily without having to actually hang anything on the wall. This is going to be a fun little nook to change with the seasons.
Thanksgiving
hang a frame
I hung the frame from a nail because it’s way too heavy for magnets. I used a vintage clip-on earring turned magnet to dot the I.
